You got me thinking about Fred Pohl’s Gladiator at Law. When I reread it a few years back, it didn’t hold up as a novel, but my recollection is that it displays more class consciousness than anything else I can think of.

Nice to see the democratic socialist coming to the fore in the SF fan. You make me want to reread the Delany & Bester books. (Actually, not sure I’ve actually read the Bester one. It doesn’t seem to be in my collection. Delany has been one of my all-time favorite authors since the Ace Doubles version of “Empire Star” blew my teenage mind more than 55 years ago.)

As I pointed out on my site, I remember Nova fondly -- one of only a few SF novels I've ever reread. Unfortunately, I could not manage to write a review at the time (must have been 2012 or something) so some of the details have become murky in my mind. I, too, find myself far more interested in social extrapolation and social commentary than the science. Or maybe a better way of putting it for me is that I find science extrapolation only interesting as a way to talk about its impact on society.

Did you see my article on Simak and radical midwestern politics? I looked at a range of pre-and post-WWII stories to explore his take on organized labor.
